There's no water park on Clearwater Beach itself. The nearest is Splash Harbour Water Park in Indian Rocks Beach, 7.3 miles from Pier 60 (about 19 minutes with no traffic). It sells tickets daily through December 2026, with adult tickets at $29.95 to $32.95 as of October 2026. The big one is Adventure Island in Tampa, 31 miles away. It's open Friday to Sunday until October 25, 2026, then closed until March 6, 2027.
Key takeaways
- Splash Harbour is small: two 42-foot slides, a 600-foot lazy river, a zero-entry pool and a kids' splash zone. It suits kids under about 10.
- Adventure Island is the full-size park, with ten slides on its list, a wave pool and a half-mile lazy river. It's the pick for kids 42 inches and up, and for teens.
- Splash Harbour's two big slides need riders 48 inches tall. Every slide on Adventure Island's water slide list needs 42 or 48 inches.
- Everyone inside Splash Harbour needs a wristband, including parents who won't swim. Adventure Island charges one price for ages 3 and up.
- From June through August, the two nearest airports reported thunder within 10 miles between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on 55% to 58% of days (2016-2025). Mornings were much safer: at least 80% of days had no thunder from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Go at opening.
Is there a water park on Clearwater Beach?
No. The island has hotel pools and the Gulf, but no ticketed park with slides and a lazy river. None of the 18 Clearwater Beach and Sand Key hotels in our Clearwater Beach hotel pools guide lists a lazy river or water slide on its own website.
That leaves two real choices. Splash Harbour Water Park sits next to the Holiday Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach S-Harbourside in Indian Rocks Beach, a short drive south. Adventure Island is on McKinley Drive in Tampa, near Busch Gardens: a much longer drive to a much bigger park. If you're planning more than one Tampa park day, weigh staying in Tampa versus the beach. This page covers only those two. For free playgrounds and splash pads, see our Clearwater parks and playgrounds page. For resort pools that sell a day of access, see the resort day pass guide.
Which water park is closest, and what does a day cost?
Park details come from each park's own website or booking calendar, checked October 5, 2026. Drive times are our own routing estimates. Prices and hours change, so treat them as of October 2026 and confirm before you go.

The drive times assume empty roads, so they're the best case. The Tampa trip crosses the bay, and weekday rush hour can stretch it a lot. Busch Gardens is also on McKinley Drive, and our day trips from Clearwater Beach guide covers it if you're tempted to pair the two.
Ticket cost for a family of four (two adults, two kids under 48 inches), as of October 2026:
- Splash Harbour: $115.80 on a weekday or $121.80 on a weekend. After 3 p.m. on a weekday, $95.80.
- Adventure Island: $167.96 on the cheapest online dates, plus $35 parking and tax. At the $95.99 regular price, $383.96 plus parking.
Three beach hotels bundle Splash Harbour. Pier House 60, the Edge Hotel and the Chart House Marina Hotel (40 Devon Dr.) all list two free Splash Harbour tickets with a stay, and all three amenity pages put the nightly amenity fee at $37 as of October 2026 (the Edge's policies page says $34 plus tax). Check your hotel's list before you buy, and see our guide to hotel resort fees and parking to compare what each fee covers.
Splash Harbour says every guest inside the water park needs a wristband between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., even guests of the attached hotel and people who won't get wet. A grandparent who only wants to sit in the shade still needs a ticket. The $13.95 senior rate (62 and older, with ID) helps.
When are the water parks near Clearwater Beach open?
Splash Harbour sells tickets every day for the rest of 2026. Adventure Island runs daily from April through August, mostly Friday to Sunday at either end of its season, and shuts from late October to early March. The last two columns show storm odds during water park hours; the method is in the note below the table.
| Month | Splash Harbour | Adventure Island (posted 2026-27 calendar) | Thunder 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Pinellas (PIE) | Thunder 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tampa (TPA) |

Thunder columns show the share of days, 2016-2025, on which the airport weather station reported a thunderstorm within 10 miles at some point between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. October 2027 repeats the October 2016-2025 figure.
What the calendar doesn't show: Splash Harbour's FAQ lists its hours as 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while its homepage and booking calendar say 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for most of the fall. Go by the booking calendar for your date. The park sells a 12-month pass, but its 9-month pass runs March 1 to November 30, and the site doesn't say whether winter dates will be offered or whether the pools are heated. At PIE, the median daily peak "feels like" temperature between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. is about 75°F in December and 70°F in January, which is cool for a lazy river. Call (727) 754-6492 before a winter visit.
Adventure Island's posted 2027 calendar also shows some summer Friday and Saturday closings at 11 p.m., and one (Saturday, June 19) at midnight. In 2026, the latest scheduled close was 7 p.m. Treat those late hours as tentative until closer to the date.
Seasons and hours: Adventure Island's dates come from the daily calendar behind its park hours page. We pulled every day from February 15, 2026 to November 15, 2027 (639 days) and recorded opening and closing times. Splash Harbour's come from the public Daily Admission booking calendar its tickets page links to, month by month from October 2026 to September 2027. We counted a day as open when admission was on sale and kept the posted hours for that date. We then opened the live checkout for Tuesday, October 6 and Saturday, October 10, 2026, and the prices matched the park's posted rate card. All of it was retrieved October 5, 2026.
Drive times: addresses geocoded with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim and routed from the Pier 60 entrance with the OSRM car router. OSRM assumes no traffic, so these are free-flow minimums.
Storm and heat odds: every routine and special weather report from 2016 through 2025 at St. Pete-Clearwater International (PIE, about 10 miles from Splash Harbour) and Tampa International (TPA, about 8 miles from Adventure Island), downloaded from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet ASOS archive. A day counts if any report from 10 a.m. to 5:59 p.m. carried a thunderstorm code (TS for lightning within 5 miles, VCTS for 5 to 10 miles). Days with fewer than 20 hourly reports were dropped. Airports aren't water parks, so read these as odds for the area, not a forecast.
What are the height and age rules?
Height matters more than age at both parks, so measure your kids before you buy.
| Rule | Splash Harbour | Adventure Island |
|---|---|---|
| Big slides | Smugglers Run (tube) and Pirates Plunge (body): 48 in. minimum, 300 lb maximum | Aruba Tuba, Rapids Racer, Solar Vortex, Calypso Coaster, Riptide, Wahoo! Remix (listed as closed in October 2026): 42 in. Vanish Point, Colossal Curl, Caribbean Corkscrew, Water Moccasin: 48 in. |
| Little-kid areas | Treasure Cove Splash Zone (three small slides, a dumping bucket) and the zero-entry Blue Lagoon Pool | Castaway Falls (four small slides, tipping buckets) and Shaka-Laka Shores (zero-depth) |
| Lazy river | Great White Lazy River, about 600 ft | Rambling Bayou, about half a mile; life vest recommended under 42 in. |
| Free admission | Ages 2 and under | Under 3 |
| Supervision | Under 16 must be with an adult; the booking page asks for one adult per two children under 16 | The park suggests visitors 13 and younger come with an adult; a chaperone policy applies on specific dates |
| Swim diapers | Required for children not potty trained; sold in the gift shop | Not addressed in the FAQ; ask before you go |
| Life jackets | Only Coast Guard approved; loaners free at the front office | Only Coast Guard approved vests allowed in the park |
| Food | No outside food or containers; sealed bottled water allowed | No outside food or coolers; one bottle of water or refillable bottle allowed |
Our verdict by age. Under 4: Splash Harbour. The splash zone and zero-entry pool are most of what a toddler can use at either park, and Splash Harbour is cheaper and closer. Ages 4 to 8 and under 48 inches: Splash Harbour for a short day, or Adventure Island if they've cleared 42 inches and want real slides. Taller kids and teens: Adventure Island. Two big slides won't hold a 13-year-old for long. For beach and aquarium days with little ones, our Clearwater Beach with kids guide pulls it together.
How do you plan a water park day around summer storms?
Go early and plan to leave by mid-afternoon. Our Clearwater Beach summer storm clock puts the busiest thunder stretch at about 2 to 8 p.m. Here are the same 10 years of weather reports cut to water park hours, at both airports.
| June to August, 2016-2025 | PIE (for Splash Harbour) | TPA (for Adventure Island) |
|---|---|---|
| Days with thunder within 10 mi, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. | 55% | 58% |
| Days with no thunder 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | 80% | 83% |
| Thunder, 10 a.m. to noon (July) | 15% | 12% |
| Thunder, 2 to 4 p.m. (July) | 32% | 35% |
| Thunder, 4 to 6 p.m. (August) | 35% | 39% |
| On thunder days, clock hours with thunder during park hours (median) | 2 | 2 |
| Days with a heat index of 110°F or more, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. | 3% | 2% |
- Splash Harbour closes for lightning within 10 miles, the same radius as the thunder count above, and also closes when heavy rain blocks lifeguards' view. There are no refunds once you've been inside for more than an hour. On a summer afternoon, expect to lose some pool time. The after-3 p.m. ticket saves $5 or $6 a person, but in July and August it buys the stormiest hours of the day. From October through April, when thunder shows up during Splash Harbour's hours on fewer than 1 day in 10, it's a fair deal.
- Adventure Island offers a free return visit under its Weather-or-Not Assurance if rides close for more than 60 minutes because of lightning, wind, heat or rain, if weather shortens park hours, or if the heat index in the park reaches 110°F. At Tampa International, the heat index hit 110°F during park hours on about 1 summer day in 40, so lightning is the likelier trigger. Ask at Guest Relations or use the park's online form within a week of your visit. Parking and add-ons aren't covered, and Pass Member admissions don't qualify.
The plan: be at the gate when it opens (10 a.m. at Splash Harbour, 9 a.m. at Adventure Island in July). Do the big slides first, eat an early lunch around 11:30, and treat anything after 2 p.m. as a bonus. When thunder does roll in, it usually doesn't last: on about two-thirds of summer thunder days, it was reported in two clock hours or fewer during park hours. If the sky looks bad before you leave the beach, our rainy day guide has indoor backups closer to your hotel.
Can you get to a water park without a car?
Splash Harbour, yes, with some effort. PSTA's Suncoast Beach Trolley runs south from Clearwater Beach along Gulf Boulevard through Indian Rocks Beach every 30 minutes. Use PSTA's trip planner to find the stop nearest Second Street, and see our Clearwater Beach without a car guide for fares and hours. With kids and bags, a rideshare is faster. Adventure Island, realistically, no. We found no direct transit route from the beach to Tampa, so plan on a car or rideshare for the 31-mile trip.
What are the free or cheaper alternatives?
If the kids just need to get wet and burn off energy, skip the ticket. A public splash pad, a resort day pass or the Gulf itself will do it (the parks page and day pass guide linked near the top cover the first two). What none of them has is a lazy river or a 42-foot slide, and that's the real reason to drive to Indian Rocks Beach or Tampa.
We also looked for an inflatable water park near Clearwater Beach, the floating obstacle-course kind. As of October 2026 we couldn't verify one with an operator website and a current season, so none is listed here.
This page draws on Splash Harbour Water Park's own pages (tickets, FAQ, rules, add-ons, annual passes, vacation packages) and its booking calendar and checkout; Adventure Island's park-hours calendar, ticket page, FAQ and attraction pages; the amenity pages of Pier House 60, the Edge Hotel and the Chart House Marina Hotel; OpenStreetMap-based routing; and 10 years of airport weather reports from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Everything was checked October 5, 2026. We didn't visit, ride or time anything ourselves. We're an independent guide, and neither park, nor any hotel named here, pays us.
