The short answer

Start with the free Sunsets at Pier 60 festival, which runs nightly from two hours before to two hours after sunset (roughly 5 to 9 p.m. in mid-October). Then add one thing: night fishing on Pier 60 until 9 p.m., Captain Memo's 6 p.m. pirate cruise ($49 adults), live music at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, or a BayCare Sound concert downtown. The last South Beach trolley leaves downtown at 9:15 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, 11:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Key takeaways

  • The beach is open 24 hours. Pier 60 Park closes from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., and lifeguards work only 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so any swim after dark is unguarded.
  • Sunsets at Pier 60 is free and runs every night of the year, weather permitting. Clocks fall back on November 1, sunset jumps to about 5:45 p.m., and the whole evening moves earlier.
  • Pier 60 fishing hours announced at the September 2025 reopening: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Labor Day through late February, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from March through Labor Day.
  • The BayCare Sound has 11 shows on its calendar between October 9 and November 28, 2026, and the Clearwater Jazz Holiday fills Coachman Park October 15 to 18.
  • Sea turtle nesting season on Clearwater Beach runs May 1 to October 31. Until it ends, keep lights and camera flash off the sand at night.
  • Sort out the ride home first. On Sunday to Thursday nights the last South Beach trolley leaves downtown at 9:15 p.m., before most concerts finish.
Looking for a bar crawl instead?

This page is for families, couples and anyone who wants an evening that isn't built around drinks. For tiki bars, rooftops, DJs and the places open past midnight, see our guide to Clearwater Beach bars and nightlife, which goes venue by venue.

What's open after dark at Clearwater Beach?

Less than you'd guess from how busy the beach is by day, but plenty for three or four good evenings. Most of the non-bar options sit within a few blocks of Pier 60 and the marina across the roundabout. Hours and prices below are as each operator published them in October 2026.

Two things that some lists sell as evening plans but aren't: the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which lists 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours, and the Clearwater Ferry, whose last boat from downtown to the beach leaves at 8 p.m. Both come up again below.

What time does the Sunsets at Pier 60 festival start?

Two hours before sunset, every night of the year, weather permitting, and it wraps up two hours after. It's free and has run since March 17, 1995. Expect street performers, buskers and a row of artisan booths on the plaza at the base of the pier, with the Gulf as the main act. The organizers' FAQ also quotes "current summer hours" of 6 to 10 p.m. That only holds when sunset is around 8 p.m., so plan by the sunset clock, not a fixed time.

Of everything on this page, that's the timing that shapes your night. Sunset moves by almost three hours over the year and the festival moves with it. Approximate sunset times and the matching festival window:

Sunset times are calculated for Clearwater Beach with NOAA's solar equations and rounded, so they can be off by a minute or so; NOAA's solar calculator gives the exact time for your date. Where to stand, what the vendors sell and how early to come on a weekend are all in our Sunsets at Pier 60 guide.

Arrive with the sun still up

The hour before sunset is the one to catch: warm light, performers just getting going, and room left on the sand. Aim to arrive 60 to 90 minutes before sunset and eat afterward, which also keeps you ahead of the dinner rush.

Can you fish Pier 60 at night?

Yes, until the bait house closes. Pier 60 reopened for fishing on September 1, 2025, after storm repairs from Helene and Milton, with hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from March through Labor Day and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Labor Day through late February. In October, that means a 9 p.m. finish. Bay News 9 reported daily passes at $8 to $12 depending on age ($12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 kids 15 and under), rod rental at $12 a day and frozen bait at $6. At the reopening, the section from the bait house out to the gate was the part that came back, so ask at the window how far out you can fish, and confirm hours and prices there before planning a late session.

The lights are what make night fishing work here. Visit St. Pete/Clearwater calls Pier 60's many lights ideal for it: they draw baitfish, and bigger fish follow the bait. Licensing, rigs, bait and what bites each season are in our Pier 60 fishing guide. If 9 p.m. is too early a finish, compare the hours of other fishing piers and docks around Clearwater.

A word for parents. A pier at night, with hooks, wet planks and a long drop, is fine for kids who already fish and a poor choice for a toddler who is just along for the ride. The playground at the base of the pier suits little ones better, but note that the city lists Pier 60 Park as closed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Which evening cruises leave from Clearwater Beach Marina?

Three, and each suits a different group. All leave from Clearwater Beach Marina at 25 Causeway Blvd, across the roundabout from Pier 60. Prices are what each operator listed in October 2026.

Captain Memo's is the family pick. Public cruises run two hours, adults 21 and over get free beer and wine, and the crew runs water-gun battles, face painting, treasure hunts and a dance party. The operator says sailings fill two to three days ahead in busy seasons and asks you to be in the parking lot an hour before departure. In October the 6 p.m. sailing is on the water as the sun goes down; in November the 5 p.m. sailing does the same.

The Starlite Infinity is a four-deck yacht that carries up to 340 passengers. Admission covers the cruise, a DJ and a reserved table. Appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks are bought on board, and parties of seven or more get a 20% gratuity added. The Calypso Queen, from the same company, is the more casual boat: a DJ playing island music and an optional buffet, and buffet tickets include beer, wine, rum punch and soft drinks. Neither lists a fixed nightly departure time, so check the booking calendar for your date.

For the full range of sunset sails, dolphin-and-sunset combos and smaller boats, see our sunset cruise guide, and for a party boat with a bar on board, our guide to evening tiki cruises. Hoping for glowing water? Our bioluminescence guide covers whether the bay actually glows at night.

Marina parking is tight right now

Starlite Cruises warns that the marina is under construction and parking is "extremely limited," so leave extra time. The city lists the marina lot at $3.50 an hour with a two-hour limit. Starlite hands its passengers a daily merchant code at the ticket booth that drops the rate to $1 an hour (it can't be used in the ParkMobile app). If you're staying on the beach, walk or take the trolley instead.

Is it worth walking the beach and Beach Walk after dark?

Yes, and it's free. The city lists Clearwater Beach as open 24 hours, and once the festival crowd thins, the sand south of Pier 60 is about as quiet as the island gets. Beach Walk, the curving promenade along South Gulfview Boulevard, is lit and lined with restaurants, so you can make a loop of it: out along the sand, back along the promenade.

Swimming is the catch. Lifeguards are on duty only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so anyone in the water after dark is on their own. With kids, stay on the lit stretch between the pier and the hotels, and keep phones and keys off the sand. Crime numbers, rip currents and the rest of the practical stuff are in our Clearwater Beach safety guide.

What are the sea turtle rules for the beach at night?

Clearwater's development code sets sea turtle nesting season on Clearwater Beach and Sand Key as May 1 to October 31 and limits lighting during that period, so fixtures near the beach can't light up the sand. FWC's guidance tells beachfront owners to keep decorative lights off until nesting season ends on October 31. Artificial light confuses nesting females and draws hatchlings away from the water.

For an evening walk in season, FWC's Share the Beach advice comes down to this:

  • Avoid lights and flash photography on the beach at night, phone flashlights included. If you need some light to get around, FWC's lighting guidance rates long-wavelength light (amber, orange or red, 560 nm or longer) as turtle-friendly.
  • If you see a nesting turtle, stay at least 50 feet away and keep quiet. Let hatchlings crawl to the water on their own.
  • Before sunset, fill in any holes the kids dug and take chairs and other gear off the sand. Both can trap turtles.
  • To report someone disturbing a nest or a turtle, call FWC's Wildlife Alert line at 1-888-404-3922.

Our sea turtle season guide covers the species and what a marked nest looks like.

Where can you hear live music without a bar crawl?

On the beach, the easy all-ages pick is Frenchy's Rockaway Grill at 7 Rockaway St, about 0.4 miles north of Pier 60 by map, or roughly a 10-minute walk along the sand. Frenchy's advertises live music daily from local artists, with open-air beachfront seating on the Gulf. It's a restaurant first, open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, so it works for families. The month's performers are posted on Frenchy's live music page.

Clear Sky Beachside Cafe at 490 Mandalay Ave, a short walk inland from the pier, is a seafood-focused cafe that advertises live music from local musicians, and it posts later hours than the other restaurants in this guide (more below). The festival at Pier 60 has buskers every night too, and for many families that's all the live music the evening needs.

For a proper concert, you leave the island. The Clearwater Jazz Holiday runs Thursday to Sunday, October 15 to 18, 2026, at Coachman Park, home of The BayCare Sound. Chris Botti headlines Thursday, Arturo Sandoval and Sheila E. play Friday, Big Sam's Funky Nation and Larkin Poe play Saturday, and Dumpstaphunk and The Wood Brothers close Sunday. The Capitol Theatre at 405 Cleveland St keeps a busy calendar too. Coming up: Rodrigo y Gabriela on October 14, The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live cast on October 30 (18 and over), Ghostbusters in Concert on Halloween and Marty Stuart on November 20, all at 8 p.m.

The beach's bar stages, where the music runs later and the crowd is drinking, are in the nightlife guide linked at the top of this page.

Who's playing The BayCare Sound in October and November 2026?

The BayCare Sound is Clearwater's outdoor amphitheater at Coachman Park, 255 Drew St, on the downtown waterfront. Ruth Eckerd Hall runs it (the hall itself is a separate venue in Countryside; see our Ruth Eckerd Hall from Clearwater Beach guide), and it holds 4,000 covered seats plus 5,000 on the lawn. By road it's roughly 2 to 2.5 miles from Pier 60 across the Memorial Causeway. These shows were on the venue's official calendar as of October 4, 2026, with listed start times. Doors usually open about an hour before; your ticket has the exact time.

Lineups change and shows get added, so check the official BayCare Sound page before you plan around one. A few venue rules catch visitors out. Shows go on rain or shine. Umbrellas and chairs aren't allowed, but lawn blankets up to 30 by 60 inches are. Bags must be clear and no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a small clutch. And the venue is cashless. Our guide covers downtown parking and the ride to The BayCare Sound.

Where can you eat late that isn't a bar?

This is where Clearwater Beach runs thin. Many restaurant kitchens near the pier close by 10 or 11 p.m., and past that the late options are mostly bar kitchens. Of the family-friendly restaurants near the pier, these post the latest hours on their own sites:

RestaurantAddressSun to ThuFri and SatWhy go

Hours are as posted on each restaurant's site in October 2026. Kitchens can close before the doors do, so call ahead if you're cutting it close. If you'll want groceries or snacks in the room later, do that run before dark.

What should you do at night, by traveler type?

  • Families with young kids: Sunsets at Pier 60 and the playground before the park closes at 9 p.m., then an early dinner at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill. If you pay for one thing, make it Captain Memo's pirate cruise: 6 p.m. in October, 5 p.m. in November. Our kids guide, linked below, covers the daytime half.
  • Families with teens: night fishing on Pier 60 until 9 p.m., or a BayCare Sound show if the lineup suits them. Sunday-to-Thursday concerts usually end after the last trolley back, so drive or budget for a ride. Our teens guide covers how much freedom teens can have after dark, and on a launch night, try watching a night rocket launch from the harbor side.
  • Couples: sunset from the sand south of the pier, then the Starlite Infinity dining yacht or a Capitol Theatre show downtown. Walk back along Beach Walk and the night ends without a bar tab.
  • Non-drinkers and sober travelers: most of this page works. The festival, night fishing and the beach walk don't revolve around alcohol. Captain Memo's pours free beer and wine for adults and the Calypso Queen's buffet ticket includes drinks, both easy to skip but good to know.
  • Groups of adults who want a late night: start at the festival, eat, then move on to the bars and live-music decks on the sand. Friday and Saturday are the nights the trolley runs late. For drag shows and gay bars, see our guide to drag shows and LGBTQ+ nights out in St. Pete and Dunedin.

How do you get back to your hotel late?

Work this out before you leave the room. Getting around Clearwater Beach is easy by day and awkward after about 10 p.m. on weeknights, when the public trolleys stop.

Times come from the operators' posted schedules as of October 2026 and can slip with traffic and weather. In practice: on a Friday or Saturday you can see a show downtown and still make the 11:15 p.m. South Beach trolley if it ends on time. Sunday to Thursday, the latest public ride back is PSTA's 10 p.m. trip from Park Street, which an early show (or the Jazz Holiday's Thursday and Sunday sets, which end around 9:30 p.m.) can make. For anything later, drive, take a rideshare or taxi, or pick an earlier show. Rideshare prices climb right after a concert lets out, so check the app before you build a plan around it. Our Clearwater Beach without a car guide maps every stop.

If you drive, mind the parking hours. The city's beach surface lots charge $3.50 an hour and list hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.; on-street meters are $4 an hour with a five-hour limit. The city also lists four private garages: North Beach Parking Plaza at 490 Poinsettia Ave, the Hyatt garage at 301 S Gulfview Blvd, the Surf Style garage at 311 S Gulfview Blvd and the Opal Sol garage at 400 Coronado Dr. Only Opal Sol has published hours (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.), so at the others, read the sign at the entrance for closing time and overnight rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in Clearwater Beach at night besides drinking?

The free Sunsets at Pier 60 festival every evening, night fishing on Pier 60 until 9 or 10 p.m. depending on the season, evening pirate and dinner cruises from Clearwater Beach Marina, live music at restaurants such as Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, concerts at The BayCare Sound and the Capitol Theatre downtown, and a walk on the beach, which is open 24 hours.

Is Clearwater Beach open at night?

Yes. The City of Clearwater lists the beach as open 24 hours. Pier 60 Park, playground included, is closed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., and lifeguards are on duty only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so swimming after dark is unguarded.

What time does Pier 60 close for fishing?

Hours set at the September 2025 reopening are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from March through Labor Day and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Labor Day through late February. Check at the bait house before planning a late session.

Is the Sunsets at Pier 60 festival every night, and is it free?

Yes to both. It runs year-round, every night, weather permitting, from two hours before sunset to two hours after. There's no admission charge; you pay only for what you buy from the artisans.

How late does the Jolley Trolley run on Clearwater Beach?

On the South Beach route, the last southbound trolley leaves Park Street downtown at 9:15 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The last northbound run leaves Bay Park on Sand Key at 9:48 p.m. and 11:48 p.m. The fare is $2.25 cash, exact change.

Can you get to a BayCare Sound concert from the beach without a car?

Getting there is easy: the Jolley Trolley and PSTA's Suncoast Beach Trolley both run to Park Street downtown, a few blocks from Coachman Park, and the Clearwater Ferry runs Thursday to Sunday until 8:30 p.m. Getting back is harder. Only on Friday and Saturday does the last Jolley Trolley (11:15 p.m. from Park Street) leave late enough for most shows. On other nights the last public ride is PSTA's 10 p.m. trip, so plan on a rideshare or taxi for a late finish.

Is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium open at night?

Not for regular admission. Its website lists 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours as of October 2026. It does hold occasional ticketed evening events, so check its events calendar; otherwise make it a daytime stop and save the evening for the beach.
