The short answer

Ruth Eckerd Hall is at 1111 McMullen Booth Rd, about 10 road miles east of Pier 60, and it is not The BayCare Sound downtown. On an empty road the drive takes about 20 minutes. Self-parking is free, EZ Parking is $30 (as of October 2026), and doors usually open an hour before curtain. For an 8 p.m. show, leave the beach by 6:30 p.m. No bus or trolley runs back late, so drive or book a rideshare.

Key takeaways

  • Of the 31 upcoming main-hall shows posted on October 5, 2026, nine start at 8 p.m., six at 7 p.m., four at 7:30 p.m., ten are 1 p.m. Sunday matinees, and one each starts at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. All six event pages we checked open doors 60 minutes before the start.
  • Self-parking is free. EZ Parking is $30, credit card only, and gets you out first. Valet costs extra (no price posted) and is half off with an ADA permit.
  • The hall's pre-show dinner buffet is $35 per person including tax and starts 1.5 hours before the show.
  • The last PSTA Route 70 bus toward downtown leaves Clearwater Mall at 8:33 p.m. (7:33 p.m. Sundays), long before an evening show lets out.
  • Spray sunscreen is banned at the door, and the dress code rules out swimsuits and bare feet.

Where is Ruth Eckerd Hall, and is it the same as The BayCare Sound?

No. One organization runs both, but they're different places. Ruth Eckerd Hall is at 1111 McMullen Booth Rd, Clearwater, on the Tampa Bay side of the mainland. The venue describes it as one mile north of the Bayside Bridge and the Courtney Campbell Causeway (SR 60). The smaller Murray Theatre shares the address and the free on-site parking.

The BayCare Sound is the outdoor amphitheater at 255 Drew St in downtown Clearwater, and the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre is at 405 Cleveland St, also downtown. Both are just over the causeway; The BayCare Sound is about 3.3 road miles from Pier 60. The main hall is roughly three times as far, so read the venue line on your ticket before you plan the night. For a downtown show, use our BayCare Sound parking and trolley guide instead. Our Clearwater vs Clearwater Beach explainer lays out the city's geography.

When should you leave the beach for a Ruth Eckerd Hall show?

Find the start time on your ticket and read across. "Leave by" means pulling out of a hotel near Pier 60. These are our planning targets, worked backward from posted door times and route estimates. The venue doesn't set them.

The door times assume the one-hour gap shown on all six main-hall event pages we checked. If your event page lists something else, go by that. The 1.5-hour dinner lead comes from evening shows only. All 10 matinee event pages offer brunch but don't post a start time, so ask the ticket office. Each "leave by" time stacks three pieces: a free-flow drive of about 21 minutes, 20 extra minutes for evening traffic, and a 45-minute cushion before curtain to park, walk in from an overflow lot and get through bag screening. From Sand Key, leave up to 5 minutes earlier.

Which way should you drive?

Every sensible route crosses the Memorial Causeway, then runs east across Clearwater on Gulf to Bay Boulevard (SR 60) or Drew Street (SR 590). Both roads hit McMullen-Booth Road south of the hall, so you turn left (north), then right onto Ruth Eckerd Hall Drive.

TripRoad distanceFree-flow drive time (estimate)Notes
Pier 60 to the hall, fastest route9.7 to 9.8 mi20 to 21 minThe two routers split: one takes Gulf to Bay Blvd (SR 60) with a short jog up Bayview Ave to Drew St, the other stays on Drew St from downtown. Both finish north on McMullen-Booth Rd
Pier 60 to the hall, forced via Drew St10.1 mi22 minCauseway, Drew St (SR 590) east, McMullen-Booth Rd north

On an empty road the options land within two minutes of each other. Take whichever one your map app shows moving. The venue's own directions from SR 60 are simple: north on McMullen-Booth Road, then right onto Ruth Eckerd Hall Drive.

How we built this table

Showtimes: every main-hall show posted on the hall's events page and its Broadway, holiday and matinee pages on October 5, 2026, plus Air Supply's event page: 31 shows, October 7, 2026 to May 10, 2027. That's what those pages list, not the full season, and it leaves out the Murray Theatre. Doors: the "Doors Open" and "Event Starts" lines on six main-hall event pages (Boz Scaggs, Postmodern Jukebox, Tom Jones, Lindsey Stirling, Air Supply, Derek Hough), all 60 minutes apart. Drive times: the open-source Valhalla router (public FOSSGIS server), cross-checked with OSRM, on OpenStreetMap data, October 5, 2026, with addresses placed by OpenStreetMap or the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder. Neither router models traffic, so these are free-flow estimates, not timed drives. Leave-by formula: start time minus 45 minutes (arrival cushion), minus 21 minutes (the slower of the two Pier 60 estimates), minus 20 minutes (traffic allowance), rounded down to the nearest 5 minutes. With the pre-show dinner, the target becomes arriving when the buffet opens, 90 minutes before curtain. The traffic allowance and the cushion are our planning rules, not measurements.

Can you watch the sunset and still make the show?

Palm trees silhouetted against an orange and violet dusk sky on Clearwater Beach, with a long pier and its roofed pavilion on the horizon
In winter, sunset on the beach comes early enough to watch it before an evening show.

Only in the cooler months. Checked against our Clearwater Beach sunset times table:

  • October: sunset is 7:02 p.m. on October 15 and still 6:48 p.m. on Halloween. An 8 p.m. show means leaving at 6:30, so you'll miss it.
  • November through early February: sunset falls between about 5:35 and 6:15 p.m. You can watch it and still leave by 6:30 for an 8 p.m. show. For a 7:30 show (leave by 6:00), that holds through about mid-January.
  • From March 14, 2027: daylight saving time starts and sunset jumps to about 7:40 p.m., well after any evening leave-by time.

A 7 p.m. show never fits: you leave by 5:30, and the earliest sunsets of the year come at about 5:35 p.m.

Where do you park at Ruth Eckerd Hall, and what does it cost?

On site, and free unless you choose EZ Parking or valet. A-Lot, the main auditorium lot, is immediately on the right after you turn onto Ruth Eckerd Hall Drive. Once it fills, you're directed to the next closest lot. Stay in the left lane for valet, rideshare, ADA or member parking.

OptionCost (as of October 2026)What you get
Self-parking (A-Lot, then overflow lots)FreeOn-site parking; later arrivals get lots farther out
EZ Parking$30, credit card onlyA premium lot with "priority egress" onto Ruth Eckerd Hall Drive after the show. Staff direct you from 5 p.m. Limited and subject to change
Valet (sponsored by Dimmitt Automotive Group)"Additional cost," price not postedAvailable at most events. 50% off with an ADA parking permit
ADA parkingFreeMarked spaces, drop-off points at each entrance, plus overflow accessible parking
Check EZ Parking the day of the show

The hall says EZ Parking is limited and subject to change. Check your "Before You Arrive" email or the hall's social accounts on show day, and bring a credit card. If you need a fast getaway (an early flight, a sitter at the hotel), this is the one to pay for.

The building has two entrances, the Grand Lobby on the west side and the England Family Music Garden on the east, with rideshare drop-off and pickup between them. The ticket office opens two hours before showtime, and will call needs a photo ID matching the name on the tickets. The Murray Theatre's window opens one hour before.

Can you take a rideshare, trolley or bus instead?

Rideshare is the best of the three. Uber and Lyft drop off between the two entrances, and the venue's A-Z guide recommends scheduling ride requests ahead of time. Fares swing with demand, so we don't quote them. Check both apps, and price the ride home when you book the ride over.

No trolley goes there. None of the Jolley Trolley's three routes (North Beach, South Beach, Coastal) or PSTA's Suncoast Beach Trolley has a posted stop on McMullen-Booth Road.

The bus gets you there, but not back. PSTA Route 70 runs hourly between the Park Street Terminal downtown and Clearwater Mall; a single cash fare is $2.25 (as of October 2026). On the timetable effective February 1, 2026, the 7:00 p.m. bus from Park Street reaches the McMullen and Frontage Rd stop at 7:20 p.m. From there the hall is about 1.2 miles on foot, roughly 22 minutes by our routing estimate. The last bus back toward downtown leaves Clearwater Mall at 8:33 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7:33 p.m. on Sundays and holidays, so you'd still need a ride home. More options are in our Clearwater Beach without a car guide.

Where can you eat before a show at Ruth Eckerd Hall?

At the hall itself, if your show has the pre-show buffet. It saves a second parking job. If it doesn't, the venue's partner restaurants are the next stop; we added drive times and the hours each restaurant posts on its own site.

Our pick is Valentino. It's the only partner restaurant within 10 minutes of the hall, and the venue's partner page says to mention Ruth Eckerd Hall there for a free appetizer (as of October 2026). Call Bascom's or Katch Bistro before you drive over. The hall's buffet follows a menu themed to the touring artist and includes one drink (beer, wine, a single-liquor cocktail or soda). Inside, concessions sell pizza, hot dogs, popcorn and pretzels, and the John Geigle Bar in the grand lobby serves food from Corvo Bianco.

Eating on the beach before an 8 p.m. show works if you sit down by about 5 p.m., including at the resort dining rooms on the beach, so you're paid up by the 6:30 leave-by time. From November through early February, that can still be a sunset dinner.

How do you get back to the beach after the show?

Drive or rideshare. It's about 9.5 miles and 20 to 21 minutes with no traffic: south on McMullen-Booth Road, west on SR 60 or Drew Street, then over the Memorial Causeway. Rideshare pickup is between the two entrances. Back on the island, our Clearwater Beach at night guide covers what's open late, and our hotel parking and resort fees comparison shows what overnight parking costs if you drove.

Should you stay on the beach or near the hall?

If the show is one night of a beach vacation, stay on the beach and make the 20-minute drive. If the trip is built around the hall (two or more shows, or no beach plans at all), stay near it and save yourself a 40-minute round trip each night. Free-flow drive times from the venue's preferred hotels:

As of October 2026, the venue's partner page lists a code (REHCS) for 15% off the best available rate at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa (400 Mandalay Ave), 15% off the regular rate at the Residence Inn Clearwater Downtown, and special rates at the Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa/Oldsmar and the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach (650 Bay Esplanade). Check the terms when you book. Other beach partners are the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach, the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach and the Opal Collection resorts. For neighborhoods, see our where to stay in Clearwater Beach guide.

What should you know about bags and dress coming from the beach?

From the hall's A-Z guide as of October 2026:

  • Bags: any bag that fits under your seat, screened at the door. The clear-bag rule applies only at The BayCare Sound.
  • Prohibited: aerosols "(e.g. Sunscreen, hairspray)," outside food and drinks, outside coolers and hard-sided bottles, pocket knives, weapons regardless of permit, selfie sticks, GoPros and detachable-lens cameras.
  • Dress code: tops and bottoms with "sufficient coverage." The guide calls shirtless, bathing suits and sheer clothing inappropriate, and shoes are required.
  • Re-entry: not allowed. If you leave, you can't go back in.
  • Kids: everyone needs a ticket regardless of age, except free lap passes for under-1s at shows for young audiences when the artist permits.
Coming straight off the sand

Change at the hotel, not in the car. Swimsuits and bare feet won't get you in. Leave the spray sunscreen in the car and bring a seat-sized bag, not the beach tote.

How we researched this

We used Ruth Eckerd Hall's own visitor, dining, partner and event pages, PSTA's Route 70 timetable and route pages, and the restaurants' and hotels' sites, all checked October 4 and 5, 2026. Drive times are free-flow router estimates. We didn't attend, time or price anything ourselves, and we don't review shows or seats. We're an independent guide, and nobody named here pays us.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Ruth Eckerd Hall from Clearwater Beach?

About 9.7 to 10 road miles from Pier 60, roughly 20 minutes with no traffic. For an 8 p.m. show, we'd leave the beach by 6:30.

Is parking free at Ruth Eckerd Hall?

Yes, self-parking is free. EZ Parking, with priority exit, costs $30 by credit card when offered. Valet costs extra, with 50% off for ADA permit holders.

When do doors open at Ruth Eckerd Hall?

On all six main-hall event pages we checked, one hour before the posted start. Your event page lists its own "Doors Open" time.

Is Ruth Eckerd Hall the same place as The BayCare Sound?

No. The BayCare Sound is the outdoor amphitheater at 255 Drew St downtown, run by the same organization. It's about 7 to 8 road miles from the hall, with different parking and bag rules.

Can I take the Jolley Trolley to Ruth Eckerd Hall?

No. No trolley route has a posted stop on McMullen-Booth Road, and PSTA's Route 70 bus leaves you a 1.2-mile walk away and quits running back toward downtown before evening shows end.

Can I bring a bag into Ruth Eckerd Hall?

Yes, if it fits under your seat. The clear-bag rule is only for The BayCare Sound. Spray sunscreen and outside food and drinks aren't allowed.

Making a night of it?

Pick your hotel first. A beach base works for a single show. A run of shows is easier from near the hall.
