The Phillies play 16 home spring games at BayCare Ballpark, 601 N. Old Coachman Rd., Clearwater, from Saturday, Feb. 20 (Blue Jays) to Monday, March 22, 2027 (Rays). It's about 7 miles from Pier 60, 15 to 20 minutes by car without game traffic. Parking was $15 in advance and $20 on game day in 2026. Tickets aren't on sale yet (2026 tickets went on sale in early December). The wild card: a possible MLB lockout after Dec. 1, 2026.
Key takeaways
- 2027 is the Phillies' 81st spring in Clearwater. The Grapefruit League opener is Feb. 19 at Lakeland; the first home game is Feb. 20 against Toronto, and the home finale is March 22 against Tampa Bay.
- Game times for 2027 hadn't been posted as of October 2026. In 2026 every Grapefruit League home game but the finale started at 1:05 p.m.
- The Clearwater Jolley Trolley runs a round-trip Phillies shuttle from Pier 60, Sand Key and the Clearwater Beach Marina. Book ahead, because the operator says it sells out every year.
- 2026 parking was $15 bought in advance through the MLB Ballpark app and $20 on game day. Free shuttles run from the Joe DiMaggio Complex and St. Petersburg College lots.
- Workouts at the Carpenter Complex next door cost nothing to watch. They usually run from mid-to-late morning into early afternoon.
- The MLB labor contract expires Dec. 1, 2026. The last lockout, in 2022, pushed the first spring games back to mid-March, so book refundable rooms until the labor picture is settled.
When is Phillies spring training 2027, and who's coming to Clearwater?
The Phillies and MLB released the 2027 Grapefruit League schedule on Sept. 4, 2026. All 30 teams open on Friday, Feb. 19. The Phillies start that day on the road against the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland, then come home to BayCare Ballpark on Saturday, Feb. 20 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Sixteen of their spring games are at home, and the regular season opens March 25 at Washington.
The full home list is below. Game times still weren't posted as of early October 2026. Last spring is a fair guide: every 2026 Grapefruit League home game started at 1:05 p.m. except the finale, which started at 12:05 p.m.
| Date (2027) | Day | Opponent at BayCare Ballpark | Planning note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feb. 20 | Sat | Toronto Blue Jays | Home opener |
| Feb. 21 | Sun | New York Yankees | First of three Yankees home games |
| Feb. 24 | Wed | Detroit Tigers | Midweek |
| Feb. 25 | Thu | Pittsburgh Pirates | Midweek |
| Feb. 27 | Sat | Minnesota Twins | Weekend |
| March 3 | Wed | New York Yankees | Midweek, big draw |
| March 5 | Fri | Pittsburgh Pirates | Start of a weekend |
| March 6 | Sat | Toronto Blue Jays | Weekend |
| March 8 | Mon | Boston Red Sox | Only Red Sox home game |
| March 10 | Wed | New York Yankees | Midweek, big draw |
| March 12 | Fri | Detroit Tigers | Weekend start |
| March 14 | Sun | Atlanta Braves | Split-squad day; daylight saving time starts |
| March 16 | Tue | Toronto Blue Jays | Midweek |
| March 17 | Wed | Baltimore Orioles | St. Patrick's Day game |
| March 19 | Fri | Tampa Bay Rays | Late spring, regulars play longer |
| March 22 | Mon | Tampa Bay Rays | Home finale |
The schedule is subject to change, and the Phillies post updates on phillies.com. Four road games are an easy hop from the beach if you want to see a second ballpark: the Phillies visit the Blue Jays at TD Ballpark, 373 Douglas Ave., Dunedin, on March 13 and March 21 (about 6 miles from Pier 60 by map routing), and the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field, 1 Steinbrenner Drive, Tampa, on Feb. 26 and March 20 (about 22 miles).
Which week should you pick?
Late February is cooler and calmer on the beach, but starting pitchers usually throw only an inning or two that early in camp. By mid-March the regulars play longer, the Gulf is warmer, and spring break crowds fill the sand. If seeing the everyday lineup matters more than hotel prices, aim for March 12 to March 22. For a quieter beach, the Feb. 24 to March 6 window packs six home games into 11 days. Our guide to how spring break affects crowds and parking covers what mid-March does to the island.
Could a lockout affect spring training 2027?
It could, and it matters more than anything else if you're booking this fall. MLB's collective bargaining agreement with the players' union expires on Dec. 1, 2026. Bargaining started May 12, 2026, and the biggest sticking point is MLB's push for a salary cap and floor. Without a deal, owners can lock the players out. No new agreement had been announced as of early October 2026.
This has happened recently. The last contract ran out on Dec. 1, 2021, the lockout lasted 99 days, and the two sides didn't settle until March 10, 2022. While it dragged on, MLB announced that spring games would start no earlier than March 12, which wiped out the February and early-March schedule.
Book a beach room you can cancel without penalty until at least January, and lean toward games in the second half of March. In 2022's delayed spring, those were the only Grapefruit League games played. Read the ticket refund terms before you buy. Be wary of resale listings for 2027 games, too: the Phillies hadn't opened sales as of October 2026, so anyone listing seats now doesn't actually hold them yet.
When do Phillies spring training tickets go on sale?
Not yet. As of October 2026, the Phillies' spring training ticket page said 2026 single-game tickets were no longer available and to check back for 2027. The schedule announcement only said on-sale details would come later.
Last year's timing is the best guide. The 2026 schedule came out Nov. 5, 2025. A presale by emailed offer code followed on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and the general on-sale opened Thursday, Dec. 4 at phillies.com. The 2027 schedule came out two months earlier, so the on-sale might too. Either way, expect the same presale-then-public sequence.
- Get on the list. The 2026 presale worked through a code sent by email, redeemed with a My Phillies Tickets account. Sign up for Phillies emails on phillies.com before the on-sale is announced.
- Watch the per-game limits. In the 2026 presale, the Phillies capped orders at eight tickets for seven March dates, including a Yankees game, the Red Sox game and the St. Patrick's Day game, and allowed 16 for the rest. Those limits tell you which games the team expects to sell fastest.
- Buy in person if you're already in town. The BayCare Ballpark ticket office (727-467-4457) is near the west entry. Its posted hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., plus Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from mid-February, with extended hours for weekend games. The customer service window behind Section 106 also sells tickets for future games.
- Berm seats are ticketed and limited. The outfield grass berm adds about 1,500 seats to the 7,300 fixed ones. Bring a blanket; chairs aren't allowed.
How do you get from Clearwater Beach to BayCare Ballpark?
It's an easy drive. From the Pier 60 roundabout, take the Memorial Causeway into downtown Clearwater, then follow Drew Street east for about 3.5 miles and turn left (north) on Old Coachman Road. The ballpark is on the right. Map routing puts the whole trip at about 7 miles.
| Option | How it works | Time from Pier 60 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drive and park | Causeway to Drew St. to Old Coachman Rd.; $15 advance or $20 game-day parking (2026 rates) | About 15 to 20 min without traffic; budget 30 to 45 min on game days (our estimate) | Groups of three or more, families with gear |
| Jolley Trolley Phillies shuttle | Round trip from Pier 60, Shephard's, Sheraton Sand Key or the marina; pre-book only | Leaves the beach roughly 1.5 hours before a 1:05 p.m. first pitch | Couples and anyone planning to drink |
| Uber or Lyft | Pickup and drop-off in Lot D, the south lot off Drew St. and US 19 | Similar to driving, plus a wait for a car after the game | Two people who want to leave on their own schedule |
| PSTA bus | Possible with connections through downtown Clearwater; plan in PSTA's trip planner | Much longer than the drive | Budget travelers with time to spare |
The Jolley Trolley Phillies shuttle
The Clearwater Jolley Trolley (office at 1230 S. Myrtle Ave., Clearwater, 727-445-1200) runs a round-trip shuttle just for spring training games. Its most recently posted schedule had pickups at Pier 60 (1 Causeway Blvd.) at 11:35 a.m., the Shephard's stop (PSTA stop 6689) at 11:43 a.m., the Sheraton Sand Key convention entrance (1160 Gulf Blvd.) at 11:50 a.m. and the PSTA canopy on the east side of the Clearwater Beach Marina at noon. The trolley drops off and picks up on the west side of the ballpark, is waiting from 2:30 p.m., and leaves 30 minutes after the game ends. On that schedule, pickups ran an hour earlier for a noon start, so match the times to your game.
You have to buy a ticket before you ride, and you'll need to show your confirmation to get back on. The operator says the shuttle sells out every year. As of October 2026 the page listed no fare and no 2027 dates, so check the booking calendar once game times are out.
BayCare Ballpark sits just off State Road 60, the usual route from Tampa International Airport over the Courtney Campbell Causeway to the beach. It's about 15 miles from the airport by map routing. Land in the morning on a game day and you can catch the game before you check in. Compare airports in our Tampa vs St. Pete airport guide.
If you're skipping the rental car entirely, our Clearwater Beach without a car guide covers the trolley, ferry and rideshare options for the rest of the trip.
How much does parking cost at BayCare Ballpark?
The Phillies' 2026 parking page lists $15 for a car bought in advance and $20 on game day. Advance passes live in the MLB Ballpark app. Spots aren't assigned, and a general pass works in any general lot that isn't full. Oversized vehicles that take more than one space pay for the extra space. As of October 2026 the page still showed 2026 rates, so treat them as last season's prices.
| Lot | Where | What to know (2026 season) |
|---|---|---|
| Lot A | Carpenter Complex, south of the ballpark on Old Coachman Rd. | General parking, closest walk for morning workouts |
| Lot B | Grass lot off Old Coachman Rd., in front of the west gate | Season ticket parking pass holders only |
| Lot C | Joe DiMaggio Complex, northwest corner of Drew St. and Old Coachman Rd. | General parking, free shuttle; RV and bus parking $50. On Feb. 20 and 21, 2027, it is also the only spectator lot for Clearwater Invitational softball |
| Lot D | South lot, off Drew St. and US 19 | General parking, rideshare pickup and drop-off, accessible parking with placard or plate |
| Lot E | Sharkey Rd. | General parking |
| Lot F | St. Petersburg College | General parking, free shuttle; RV and bus parking $50 |
| Lot G | Sharkey Rd. at Old Coachman Rd. | Valet, $30 |
Accessible parking is mainly in Lot D, with a few spaces in the west lot. The ballpark elevator is on the first-base side near the south lot, and the west-side drop-off has ramp access only, per the ballpark guide. For parking on the island itself, see our Clearwater Beach parking guide.
What can you bring into BayCare Ballpark?
These rules from the Phillies' ballpark guide are the ones most likely to catch out someone coming straight from the beach:
- Bags can be no larger than 16 x 16 x 8 inches and are inspected. Everyone goes through metal detectors.
- No outside food, cans, glass bottles or coolers. Each person may bring one sealed, unopened bottle of water.
- No chairs of any kind. Blankets are fine for the berm, so the beach chairs stay in the car.
- Sunscreen is free inside, courtesy of BayCare, at restrooms and portable stands.
- Cash use is limited. There's an ATM behind Section 106, but plan on paying by card.
- No re-entry, and no animals except service animals.
- Gates open two hours before first pitch.
The beach follows you inside, a little. Frenchy's Tiki Pavilion beyond the left-field wall pours cocktails, beer and wine for guests 21 and over. It sells no food and is the only smoking and vaping area. The 2026 concession menu also had grouper sandwiches. The Phillies' dugout is on the third-base side if you want to sit near the home team.
Can you watch Phillies practice at the Carpenter Complex?
Yes, for free. Before games start, the team works out next door at the Carpenter Complex, 651 Old Coachman Rd., which opened in 1967 and is the club's minor league base. Its four fields are named for Phillies greats Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Robin Roberts and Richie Ashburn, and the team often runs drills and batting practice on all four at once. An elevated walkway built for coaches and scouts loops around the fields.
In 2026, pitchers and catchers held their first workout on Feb. 11 and the full squad on Feb. 16, ten and five days before the first spring game. The 2027 report dates hadn't been announced as of October 2026. If the team keeps the same spacing ahead of a Feb. 19 opener, the first workouts would land around Feb. 9 and the first full-squad day around Feb. 14. That's our estimate, so confirm on phillies.com before you book flights around it.
Workout times change daily but usually start mid-to-late morning and wrap up in early afternoon. You still get the afternoon at the beach, which makes a strong case for flying in a few days before the first game.
Watch batting practice at the complex and be back across the causeway by early afternoon. Sunset in mid-February is around 6:20 p.m., which still leaves a few hours on the sand.
Should you stay on Clearwater Beach or near the ballpark?
Most fans should stay on the beach. The ballpark is only about 7 miles away, games are in the afternoon, and evenings are when the beach is at its best. Staying inland makes sense if you'll be at workouts every morning or you're watching costs. Late February and March are peak season on Clearwater Beach, and spring break pushes demand higher in March. We didn't survey hotel prices for this guide, so book early and compare cancellation terms.
| Traveler | Stay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Couples doing two or three games | Central beach near Pier 60 or the marina | Walk to the trolley pickup and to dinner; no parking after the game |
| Families with kids | Sand Key or South Beach | Quieter beach, Sheraton Sand Key is a shuttle stop, easy drive to the south parking lot |
| Workout regulars and month-long fans | Mainland Clearwater or Dunedin | Minutes to the Carpenter Complex every morning, often cheaper than beachfront |
| Budget trips | Mainland, with beach days by trolley | Avoids beach parking costs and peak beachfront rates |
| Fans who fly in for one game | Beach, with the game on arrival day | The ballpark is on the airport-to-beach route |

What does a good game day from the beach look like?
With the usual 1:05 p.m. start, a spring game wraps up in mid-to-late afternoon, early enough to be back on the beach for sunset.
- Morning: beach or breakfast on the island. If you're driving, buy your parking pass in the MLB Ballpark app the night before. In 2026 that saved $5 a car.
- 11:30 a.m. to noon: catch the trolley or leave by car. Gates open two hours before first pitch.
- 1:05 p.m.: first pitch. Bring sunglasses and a hat; free sunscreen is inside.
- Late afternoon: head back over the causeway. The trolley leaves 30 minutes after the final out.
- Sunset: the Sunsets at Pier 60 festival or a beach bar facing west.
By NOAA's solar formulas, sunset at Clearwater Beach falls around 6:25 p.m. on Feb. 20, about 6:30 p.m. on March 1 and about 6:40 p.m. on March 13. Daylight saving time starts Sunday, March 14, 2027, and moves sunset to about 7:40 p.m. for the rest of spring. After a February game the window is tight. After the time change it's easy. Our sunset time guide has the day-by-day times.
Is there baseball at BayCare Ballpark after spring training?
Yes. The Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies' Low-A Florida State League affiliate, play at BayCare Ballpark from early April into September. Their 2027 schedule is already out, and it opens at home on Friday, April 2 with a three-game series against the Tampa Tarpons. In 2026 most Threshers home games started at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday games started at noon.
Expect smaller crowds, cheaper parking and prospects instead of stars. Threshers-season parking is $5 per car in Lots B and D, per the team's parking page as of October 2026, and the ticket office number is the same, 727-467-4457. If you're at the beach between April and early September, a Threshers game makes an easy evening, and you'll be back on the island in time for a late dinner. To watch the Phillies' regular season at a beach sports bar, our guide lists which bars say they show MLB games.
Is BayCare Ballpark being renovated?
A big renovation is planned, but the 2027 home games are at BayCare Ballpark as usual. In April 2026 the Pinellas County Commission voted 6-1 to put $85 million in tourist development tax money toward a $205 million overhaul of the ballpark and the Carpenter Complex. The Clearwater City Council approved a $30 million share the same week. The Phillies expect about $20 million from the state and would cover the rest, including any overruns. The current lease ends in 2028, and the deal would extend it through 2047, the Phillies' 100th year in Clearwater.
What the city and county approved is a nonbinding term sheet. Officials were aiming for a final contract by fall 2026, and the current plan targets completion by spring training 2029. Planned work includes a bigger entry plaza, wider concourses, upgraded lighting and concessions, new seating, new team and fan space in the left-field corner (the tiki bar stays) and above the center-field batter's eye. A few upgrades arrived early. In 2026 the ballpark added a roughly 3,200-square-foot LED videoboard, which the Phillies call the largest at any spring training park, and a Phillies-themed playground for kids 2 to 12 in left field.
Compiled from the Phillies' and MLB's official schedule, ballpark, parking and ticket pages, the Clearwater Threshers' official site, the City of Clearwater's facility pages, the Clearwater Jolley Trolley's shuttle page, and Tampa Bay news coverage of the county and city votes, all listed below. Drive distances come from map routing, and game-day travel times and 2027 workout dates are labeled as estimates. We're an independent guide and aren't paid by the Phillies, the trolley operator or any business named here.
Frequently asked questions
When does Phillies spring training start in 2027?
Grapefruit League games start Friday, Feb. 19, 2027, with the Phillies at the Tigers in Lakeland. The first home game at BayCare Ballpark is Saturday, Feb. 20 against the Blue Jays. Report dates for pitchers and catchers hadn't been announced as of October 2026; in 2026 they held their first workout 10 days before the first game.
How far is BayCare Ballpark from Clearwater Beach?
About 7 miles from Pier 60 by map routing, via the Memorial Causeway and Drew Street. Without traffic it's about 15 to 20 minutes. On game days, give yourself 30 to 45 minutes from the beach to your seat, which is our estimate allowing for causeway traffic and lot entry.
Is there a shuttle from Clearwater Beach to Phillies games?
Yes. The Clearwater Jolley Trolley runs a pre-booked round-trip shuttle with stops at Pier 60, Shephard's, Sheraton Sand Key and the Clearwater Beach Marina. It returns 30 minutes after the game ends. Check clearwaterjolleytrolley.com for 2027 dates and fares, and book early.
How much is parking at BayCare Ballpark?
For 2026 spring games, $15 bought in advance through the MLB Ballpark app, $20 on game day, $30 for valet and $50 for RVs and buses. Threshers-season parking was $5. Confirm 2027 prices on the Phillies' parking page once it's updated.
Are Phillies spring training workouts free?
Yes. Workouts at the Carpenter Complex, 651 Old Coachman Rd., are free and open to the public. They usually run from mid-to-late morning into early afternoon, and times change day to day.
What size bag can I bring to BayCare Ballpark?
Up to 16 x 16 x 8 inches, and it will be inspected. Outside food, cans, glass and coolers aren't allowed, but each person can bring one sealed bottle of water. Chairs aren't allowed; blankets are fine on the berm.
Will a lockout cancel spring training 2027?
Nobody knows yet. The labor agreement expires Dec. 1, 2026, and a lockout is possible without a new deal. In 2022, a lockout delayed spring games until mid-March. Book refundable lodging and check the ticket refund policy before you buy.
