Of 23 Clearwater Beach menus we checked in October 2026, just two post a separate gluten-free menu (Frenchy's Rockaway Grill and Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe), and none claims a dedicated gluten-free fryer. For gluten-free and vegetarian together, go to SeaGuini at Opal Sands, which marks four meat-free mains (GF). Ocean Hai at the Wyndham Grand has a separate vegetarian menu and a plant burger on a gluten-free bun. Two menus have no meat-free main at all.
Key takeaways
- 14 of the 23 menus publish something gluten-free: a separate menu, GF labels, or a swap such as a gluten-free bun, crust, pasta or dough. The other 9 say nothing about gluten.
- Three menus mention cross-contact. Both Frenchy's gluten-free menus warn about shared grills and cooking oil, and Badfins says its gluten-free options "may not be safe for those with celiac disease."
- 21 of 23 list at least one main with no meat or fish. Bob Heilman's Beachcomber and Crabby's Beachside Pavilion list none.
- The word "vegan" shows up at three restaurants: Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, Island Way Grill and the Columbia on Sand Key.
Where should celiac, vegan and vegetarian diners eat near Pier 60?
These picks rest only on what each restaurant publishes. None of them is a dedicated gluten-free or vegan kitchen.
- Gluten-free and vegetarian together: SeaGuini at Opal Sands (430 S. Gulfview Blvd.). The dinner menu defines "(GF)" as items that "are either gluten-free or can be made gluten-free," offers gluten-free pasta, and puts (GF) on a margherita pizza, a mushroom pizza, spaghetti aglio e olio and penne alla vodka.
- Most meat-free choices: Ocean Hai at the Wyndham Grand (100 Coronado Dr.), a 6-minute walk. It posts a separate vegetarian menu (vegetable fried rice, vegetable lo mein, stir-fried vegetables with a tofu add-on), the lunch menu has a plant burger on a gluten-free bun, and the dinner menu marks vegetable fried rice, vegetable pad thai and chow mein "GF | V."
- A written gluten-free menu: Frenchy's Rockaway Grill (7 Rockaway St.) and Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe (419 Poinsettia Ave.). At both, a gluten-free bun costs $1 on the regular menu, so the grilled grouper sandwich is an option.
- The plainest celiac warning: Badfins Food + Brew (215 S. Gulfview Blvd.), 5 minutes from the pier. It marks "Gluten Friendly" dishes, sells gluten-free burger and hot dog buns for $2, has gluten-free corn tortillas on request, and tells celiac diners up front that cross-contamination can happen.
- Gluten-free pizza: Clear Sky Beachside Cafe (490 Mandalay Ave.) says all its pizzas "can be made gluten free with cauliflower crust" for $3 more.
For the overall best tables, see our best restaurants on Clearwater Beach guide. The restaurants by neighborhood page shows which stretch of the island each one is on.
What do 23 Clearwater Beach menus actually say?
Each row comes from the menu the restaurant posts on its own website. Rows run from closest to farthest on foot from the base of Pier 60. "Meat-free mains" counts entree-sized dishes (mains, burgers, tacos, bowls, pizzas, pastas, sushi rolls) with no meat or fish as written. That isn't the same as vegan: most of these dishes have cheese, egg or butter. Quoted wording is the restaurant's own. Menus change, so read this as a snapshot as of October 2026.

How we built this
Method: we listed sit-down restaurants on Clearwater Beach, Island Estates and north Sand Key that post a full menu on their own website, starting from an OpenStreetMap list of food places on the island and the restaurants our other dining guides cover. That gave 23. We dropped places whose full menus or addresses we couldn't confirm online (Ocean Seven, Speggtacular and Backwaters among them) rather than guess. For each one we saved the published menus (website pages, PDFs and the SinglePlatform menu widgets that Frenchy's and Clear Sky embed) and recorded only what they say: a separate gluten-free menu, GF labels, GF substitutions, any celiac, cross-contact or fryer wording, meat-free entree-sized dishes, breakfast service and three meat dishes. Walk times: we geocoded each address with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim (Nominatim matched only the street for three addresses: the two Beach Walk restaurants use their OpenStreetMap map points, and Frenchy's Original Cafe uses the middle of Baymont Street, so its time may run a minute long), routed on foot from 1 Causeway Blvd., at the base of Pier 60, with the OSRM foot profile on OpenStreetMap data, and converted route distance to minutes at 3 mph. Dates: menus as posted, retrieved October 5, 2026. Some PDFs carry older dates in their file names (Gondolier's Clearwater Beach menu is labeled 2023, Salt Cracker's November 2025), which we note where it matters.
Is anywhere on Clearwater Beach safe for celiac disease?
No restaurant on this list says it is, and we can't vouch for any kitchen. Not one of the 23 menus claims a dedicated gluten-free fryer, a separate prep area or staff training. The two Frenchy's gluten-free menus say the opposite: meals "may come in contact with food you wish to avoid due to shared space on grills, in cooking oil, etc.," and the restaurant "cannot guarantee with 100% confidence" against cross-contamination. Badfins says its gluten-free options may not be safe for people with celiac disease.
The labels don't all mean the same thing. SeaGuini's dinner menu defines "(GF)" as dishes that "are either gluten-free or can be made gluten-free," so a (GF) dish may need a change in the kitchen. Sandbar, Caretta and Drift print "(GF)" with no definition. Badfins says "Gluten Friendly," which promises less than gluten-free.
Fried food is the weak spot. The Frenchy's gluten-free menus leave out the fried grouper and the fries, and no other menu says its fryer oil is kept separate, so ask.
The Celiac Disease Foundation's dining-out guidance says to look at the menu online and call the restaurant outside busy hours. Its suggested first questions: do you have a gluten-free menu, which items can be made gluten-free, and has your staff completed a gluten-free training program? At the table, tell your server you have celiac disease, and ask for the manager or chef if the server doesn't understand. Its cross-contact questions cover a separate or cleaned prep space, clean or separate cookware and utensils, cleaning the grill first, and "Is there a dedicated fryer or do you change the oil for gluten-free food?" This is the foundation's general advice, not a statement about any restaurant on this page.
Can vegans and vegetarians get a real main course?
Vegetarians can, almost everywhere. Twenty-one of the 23 menus list at least one meat-free main, and the default is a black bean burger: all four Frenchy's cafes in the table have one, as do Crabby's Bar & Grill and Tate Island Grill. For more range, Ocean Hai posts a whole vegetarian menu, Gondolier has eggplant parmigiana, cheese ravioli and two vegetarian pizzas, and SeaGuini, Caretta and Drift each list three or four meat-free mains. At the Columbia on Sand Key, the Paella de Verduras is described as "vegetarian paella."
Vegans have it harder. Three restaurants use the word on their menus:
- Frenchy's Rockaway Grill: the Black Bean Burger comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado puree and sriracha lime sauce, and the menu adds, "Vegan? Hold the bun and sauces." It doesn't list what's in the patty.
- Island Way Grill: the sushi menu has a section headed "Makimono vegetarian/vegan," with an avocado-cucumber roll and a futomaki.
- Columbia (Sand Key): the Cuban Black Bean Soup is labeled "100% vegan." It's a soup, not a main.
Plant-based meat shows up without a vegan label at Clear Sky (Beyond Burger), Caretta (Impossible Bolognese, served with goat gouda), Ocean Hai (Plant Burger) and Badfins (plant-based chorizo), so ask about the bun, cheese, butter and sauces. Ocean Hai's stir-fried vegetables with the $10 tofu add-on look like the easiest dish to order vegan, but the menu doesn't say so.
Where can you eat if you don't like seafood?
Anywhere in the table. All 23 list beef, chicken or pork mains, grouper-sandwich places included. Frenchy's Rockaway Grill has a cheeseburger, ribs and prime rib, and all three Crabby's do baby back ribs. For steak, Bob Heilman's Beachcomber is a steakhouse at heart (filet, prime ribeye, New York strip, pork chop), and Island Way Grill sells ribeyes and tomahawks by the ounce. Lolita's Coastal Cocina covers Mexican, with mole chicken and al pastor tacos. Gondolier covers Italian, with chicken marsala and lasagna.
For more options, see where locals eat on Clearwater Beach and our Clearwater Beach hotel restaurants guide.
Where can you get gluten-free breakfast or pizza?
Breakfast. Four breakfast menus mention gluten. Ocean Hai marks its buttermilk pancakes and Belgian waffle "(Can be Gluten Free)," and Clear Sky Beachside Cafe, which serves breakfast from 7 a.m., footnotes that asterisked items "can be made Gluten Free." SeaGuini's breakfast menu marks many dishes "(GF) Gluten-Free," including the create-your-own omelet and avocado toast, and Caretta on the Gulf marks its egg white frittata and steak and eggs (GF). Crabby's Beachside Pavilion (breakfast 8 to 11 a.m.), Crabby's Bar & Grill, Jimmy's Fish House (7 to 11 a.m.), Gondolier and Salt Cracker (weekends only) also serve breakfast. Each lists at least one meatless egg dish, and none mentions gluten-free. Crabby's Bar & Grill's breakfast Cali Pizza comes on a cauliflower crust, but the menu doesn't call it gluten-free. For the overall morning picks, see our best breakfast on Clearwater Beach guide.
Pizza. Four places list a gluten-free crust or pizza:
- Clear Sky Beachside Cafe: any pizza on cauliflower crust, $3 extra.
- SeaGuini: margherita, gorgonzola and pear, and rustica pizzas marked (GF).
- Drift: "gluten-free dough available" for its stone-fired flatbreads.
- Gondolier Pizza: a 10-inch gluten-free pizza. Its posted Clearwater Beach menu file is dated 2023, so check before you go.
Island Way Grill is about 0.9 miles from Pier 60 on Island Estates, and the Columbia is 2.2 miles south on Sand Key. The Jolley Trolley's North Beach route loops out to Island Estates and its South Beach route runs down Gulf Boulevard on Sand Key. Our Clearwater Beach without a car guide has the stops and times.
Where can you buy gluten-free and vegan groceries?
The closest full supermarket is the Publix at 200 Island Way on Island Estates, open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily as of October 2026, per its store page. By our routing it's about 1.2 miles on foot from Pier 60 (around 25 minutes) or 5 minutes by car without traffic. The store page lists bakery, deli and seafood departments but no gluten-free or vegan section, so plan on reading labels. Our groceries guide covers delivery, liquor and the trolley stop at that Publix.
For a bigger natural-foods selection, Nature's Food Patch at 1225 Cleveland St. in downtown Clearwater is about 3.8 road miles and 9 minutes' drive from Pier 60 without traffic. As of October 2026 the market is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, and the deli and cafe close at 7 p.m. The cafe menu labels many items "Vegan" or "Vegan Available," including avocado toast and the tofu-scramble breakfast burrito and bowl. We couldn't confirm a fully vegan or dedicated gluten-free restaurant near the beach from primary sources, so we haven't listed one.
Every fact in the table comes from the restaurants' own websites, menu PDFs and embedded menus, retrieved October 5, 2026. Grocery details come from Publix's and Nature's Food Patch's own pages, and the server questions come from the Celiac Disease Foundation. Walk and drive times are OpenStreetMap routing estimates, not timed trips. We didn't eat at, call or visit these restaurants for this page, and a menu can't tell you how a kitchen actually works, so confirm anything that matters for your health with staff. We're an independent guide, and no business named here pays us.
Frequently asked questions
Which Clearwater Beach restaurants have a gluten-free menu?
Of the 23 we checked in October 2026, Frenchy's Rockaway Grill and Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe are the only two that post a separate gluten-free menu. Eight more mark gluten-free dishes on their regular menus: SeaGuini, Caretta on the Gulf, Drift, Sandbar, Ocean Hai, Clear Sky Beachside Cafe, Salt Cracker Fish Camp and Badfins.
Does any Clearwater Beach restaurant have a dedicated gluten-free fryer?
None of the 23 menus we read claims one. Frenchy's gluten-free menus warn about shared grills and cooking oil. If fried food matters to you, ask the Celiac Disease Foundation's question directly: is there a dedicated fryer, or is the oil changed for gluten-free food?
Are there vegan restaurants on Clearwater Beach?
We found no fully vegan restaurant on the island. Three of the menus we read use the word vegan: Frenchy's Rockaway Grill's black bean burger (hold the bun and sauces), Island Way Grill's vegetarian/vegan sushi rolls, and the Columbia's Cuban Black Bean Soup. Ocean Hai has the most meat-free mains, on a separate vegetarian menu.
Where can I get gluten-free pizza on Clearwater Beach?
Clear Sky Beachside Cafe makes any pizza on a cauliflower crust for $3 more, SeaGuini marks three pizzas (GF), Drift offers gluten-free flatbread dough, and Gondolier Pizza lists a 10-inch gluten-free pizza on its posted menu.
Is there a gluten-free breakfast on Clearwater Beach?
Ocean Hai at the Wyndham Grand marks its pancakes and Belgian waffle "(Can be Gluten Free)," and Clear Sky Beachside Cafe's breakfast menu says asterisked items can be made gluten-free. SeaGuini at Opal Sands and Caretta on the Gulf at Sandpearl also mark (GF) dishes on their breakfast menus. No other breakfast menu we checked mentions gluten.
