Island Estates is a man-made residential island in Clearwater Harbor that sits between Clearwater Beach (west) and mainland Clearwater (east). Memorial Causeway crosses it. For visitors, it's the home of three of the beach area's most-visited places: the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Island Way Grill, and the Publix that keeps half the beach fed.

What's on Island Estates?

Clearwater Marine Aquarium

The top attraction on Island Estates and one of the most-visited places in the Tampa Bay area. Home of Winter the dolphin and a working marine rescue facility. See our aquarium guide. Address: 249 Windward Passage.

Publix Super Market

The only grocery store on or near the beach. Beach residents and visitors use it constantly. Groceries, fresh seafood counter, deli, pharmacy, beer/wine. Address: 605 Island Way.

Island Way Grill

One of the best restaurants in the Clearwater Beach area. Upscale casual, waterfront, big menu (sushi, steak, Gulf seafood). Locals' favorite for Sunday brunch. Address: 20 Island Way.

Bob Heilman's Beachcomber (alternate dining)

Not on Island Estates itself but a short drive. Old-school classic, operating since 1948.

Residential Neighborhoods

Island Estates is primarily residential — quiet streets, canal-front homes, private docks. Many vacation rentals available here, mostly condos. Living on Island Estates puts you 5 minutes from the beach with a quieter nightly environment.

Pros of Staying on Island Estates

Cons

If you've booked a 5+ day trip and want to save money without sacrificing access: rent an Island Estates condo. You'll drive 5 minutes to the beach each day, use the Publix for breakfasts, and eat one or two dinners at Island Way Grill — and your total trip cost drops 30% vs. a beachfront hotel.
