The short answer

Salt Cracker Fish Camp, at the Clearwater Beach Marina (25 Causeway Blvd.), is the only restaurant near the marina we found that posts a cook-your-catch price: $14.90 per person, with fries and coleslaw (as of October 2026). Crabby's Dockside next door is named by three marina charters but doesn't post the offer, so call first. For fresh local fish, Frenchy's Seafood Company (419 East Shore Dr.) sells at market price.

Key takeaways

  • Of the restaurant websites we checked near the marina, one publishes the offer and a price. Three more are named by charters but say nothing about it on their own sites.
  • All six private charters in our table say they clean or fillet your catch. The Queen Fleet party boats clean fish "for a small fee."
  • Florida rule 68B-14.006(4), F.A.C., requires grouper, snapper, amberjack and other reef fish to be landed whole. So the filleting happens at the dock, not on the ride in.
  • As of early October 2026, Gulf gag grouper is closed. Gulf red snapper for private boats closes after October 4, reopens daily October 9 to 22, then runs on set weekends and holidays. Red grouper, mangrove snapper, hogfish and both mackerels are open year-round.
  • No restaurant we found posts a fillet requirement or a quantity limit. Ask about both before you sit down.

Which restaurants near the marina will cook your catch?

These are the restaurants near the Clearwater Beach Marina that we found either saying they cook guests' fish or being named by a marina charter as a place that does. Read the second column first: it tells you who is making the claim, and only in the first row is that the restaurant itself.

How we built this

Restaurants: a Python script fetched the homepages of about two dozen restaurant websites from Tarpon Springs and Dunedin south through Clearwater Beach and Island Estates to John's Pass, followed up to 14 same-site links about menus, food, fish or FAQs on each, and flagged every sentence with phrases such as "cook your catch," "you catch, we cook" or "bring your catch." We also searched Crabby's Dockside's July 2026 menu PDFs and Bob Heilman's menu page. Sea Sea Riders in Dunedin blocked the script, so we read its homepage separately. Olde Bay Cafe in Dunedin blocked every request and stays unchecked. Only Salt Cracker Fish Camp near the marina, and the Friendly Fisherman at John's Pass, describe the service on their own sites. We also opened Sculley's homepage, which now posts a renovation closure. Leads: restaurant names in the second column come from the FAQ pages of fishing charters on the City of Clearwater's Clearwater Beach Marina charter list. Distances: geocoded with OpenStreetMap Nominatim and routed from the marina with the public OSRM engine (free-flow, no traffic). Retrieved: October 4 and 5, 2026. We didn't call any restaurant, so "not posted" means not published, not "not offered."

If you fish out of John's Pass instead

Hubbard's Marina at John's Pass, about 16 road miles south of the Clearwater Beach Marina (roughly 30 minutes with no traffic), runs a formal "Catch & Cook" program with posted prices at partner restaurants. Its team cleans and fillets the fish first. One catch: Sculley's, the pricier partner, says on its own homepage that it is closed for renovations with no confirmed reopening date.

What should you ask before you hand over your fillets?

Salt Cracker prices by the person, not by the pound. Nobody near the marina publishes the details that tend to cause friction, so settle them at the host stand before you order:

  • Cleaned and filleted? Bring fillets, not whole fish, and ask whether the kitchen wants the skin on or off. Every private charter in the table below says it cleans or fillets the catch.
  • How much will they cook? No restaurant we found posts a cap. With a full cooler of grouper, ask whether they'll cook all of it or a set portion per person.
  • Which styles? Salt Cracker says "to your liking." At John's Pass the posted choices are fried, grilled or blackened. Ask what's possible on a busy night.
  • The rest of the catch. Keep what you aren't eating on ice. Some charters supply ice, but Gulf Stream II, for one, asks you to bring your own cooler to take fish home.

Can the crew fillet your fish on the way back in?

Not grouper, snapper or the other reef fish. Florida's rule is Rule 68B-14.006(4), Florida Administrative Code, the "Landed in Whole Condition Requirement" in the state's reef fish chapter. It says fish harvested under that chapter "shall be landed in a whole condition," and it bans possessing fish that have been "deheaded, sliced, divided, filleted, ground, skinned, scaled or deboned" while in or on state waters, on any public or private fishing pier, on a bridge or catwalk you can fish from, or on a jetty.

The same rule carves out two exceptions. "Mere evisceration or 'gutting'" and removing the gills before landing are allowed, and so is preparing fish "for immediate consumption on board the vessel from which the fish were caught." Chapter 68B-14 covers the snappers, groupers, amberjacks, gray triggerfish, hogfish, red porgy, black sea bass and tilefish. FWC's grouper page adds that grouper "must be landed with the head and fins intact."

Inshore fish have their own version. FWC's regulation pages for snook, redfish and spotted seatrout each say the fish "must remain in whole condition until landed ashore." Our Clearwater Beach fishing regulations guide covers sizes and bag limits.

Pier anglers, this applies to you too

The whole-condition rule names fishing piers specifically. If you catch a keeper mangrove snapper off Pier 60, don't fillet it on the pier. The City of Clearwater's Pier 60 Park page lists bait and tackle and rod rentals but doesn't mention a fish-cleaning station, so ask at the bait shop where cleaning is allowed. Our guide to fishing piers near Clearwater covers passes and hours.

Which Clearwater charters clean and bag your catch?

These operators are on the City of Clearwater's list of charters at the Clearwater Beach Marina. Everything in the table is what each one publishes on its own website, as of October 5, 2026.

The mate usually does the cleaning, so the tip covers that work too. Where operators post a number it's mostly 15 to 20% (Gulf Stream II's About page goes up to 25%), and Gulf Stream II asks guests to tip on how helpful the crew was, not on how many fish they caught. Queen Fleet doesn't post its cleaning fee, so ask at check-in. To compare boats, prices and trip lengths, start with our Clearwater Beach fishing charters guide. The Clearwater Beach Marina guide covers parking and where the docks are.

What can you keep right now, and what's in season?

Seasons decide what can end up on your plate. These are FWC's posted recreational seasons for Gulf state waters off Pinellas County, retrieved October 5, 2026. Size and bag limits apply to all of them, and the inshore species follow FWC's "Tampa Bay region" rules, which cover Clearwater.

The red snapper dates apply to private boats and to charter boats without a federal reef fish permit. Federally permitted charters follow a separate federal season, so ask your captain what you can keep. Commercial seasons and quotas also differ from these, which is why a fish market can sell a species you can't legally keep that day. For grouper strategy, see our Gulf grouper fishing guide. For snook, redfish and trout, our inshore fishing guide covers where to find inshore species in season.

Where can you buy fresh local fish near Clearwater Beach?

If the fish didn't bite, or you never got on a boat, these are the closest places to buy local seafood. Details come from each business's own pages as of October 2026, and distances are road miles from the Clearwater Beach Marina.

Frenchy's FAQ says you can watch the boats unload and the cutters prep fish from 8 a.m. to noon. Its Seafood Company page lists 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as opening hours, so go mid-morning. For claws, our stone crab season guide covers prices and Frenchy's Stone Crab Weekend. If you'd rather have someone else cook fish they bought, see our best seafood restaurants on Clearwater Beach.

Can you cook your catch yourself?

Yes, if you book a rental with a full kitchen. It's also the cheapest way to eat a big haul.

  • Ask about grills before you book. Find out whether your building has a grill area and whether balcony grills are allowed before you plan a cookout.
  • Pick up the rest at Publix. The Island Estates Publix at 200 Island Way is about a mile from the marina and open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Our Clearwater Beach groceries guide has other stores and hours.
  • Keep it cold. Fillets go straight from the charter's bag into a cooler or your fridge.
How we researched this

Everything on this page comes from published sources checked October 4 and 5, 2026: restaurant and charter websites and menus, the City of Clearwater's marina charter list and Pier 60 Park page, Hubbard's Marina, Publix's store page, FWC's species regulation pages, and the text of Rule 68B-14.006 from the Florida Administrative Code. We didn't call any restaurant, taste anything or go on any of these boats, and we don't present any phone check as a finding. We're an independent guide. No restaurant, charter or market named here pays us or knows we wrote about it.

Frequently asked questions

Which restaurant at Clearwater Beach will cook my fish?

Salt Cracker Fish Camp at the Clearwater Beach Marina (25 Causeway Blvd.) says so on its own website and posts a price of $14.90 per person with fries and coleslaw, as of October 2026. Charter captains also name Crabby's Dockside, Bob Heilman's Beachcomber and Frenchy's, but those restaurants don't publish the offer, so call first.

How much does it cost to have a restaurant cook your catch?

Salt Cracker Fish Camp posts $14.90 per person (as of October 2026). At John's Pass, Hubbard's Marina lists $11.49 per person at the Friendly Fisherman and $14.95 at Sculley's, each with two sides, though Sculley's says it is closed for renovations. Expect drinks, tax and tip on top.

Can I fillet my fish on the boat?

Not reef fish such as grouper and snapper. Rule 68B-14.006(4), F.A.C., requires them to be landed in whole condition, though gutting and removing gills are allowed. Snook, redfish and seatrout must also stay whole until landed ashore, according to FWC.

Is gag grouper in season in October?

No. FWC lists the 2026 Gulf recreational gag season as September 1 to 30. Red grouper is open year-round in Gulf state waters, with a 20-inch minimum, so it's one grouper you can still keep in October.

Where can I buy fresh fish near Clearwater Beach?

Frenchy's Seafood Company at 419 East Shore Dr. on Clearwater Beach sells fresh fish at market price and lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Frenchy's Stone Crab & Seafood Market on the Dunedin Causeway is open later, and the Island Estates Publix lists a seafood department.
